Edalene.

Edalene, I love you. Thank you. Oh, Edalene, thank you. I love you. I need you. I'll tell you every day, forever, I love you.

Poor, poor Matthew.

The vote's going to go the way Reeve wants it to, and who's shocked? All of absolutely nobody. There's enough evidence to build a house, sure, but even if he had barely two pieces to rub together, he'd still get what he wants. Reeve always does. That silver tongue of his ... he wields it in defense of Queen and country, but ...

Sometimes, I do worry about our dear cousin. There's a little bit of darkness in him. All Anshar and no Karnach. Uncle Thanes would say ...

Well, Uncle Thanes is gone, and another traitor is to blame for that. Who can blame Reeve for wanting to put down anything dangerous he sees, no matter the cost?

Not as if that makes it any easier.

You know, I wish that I did think he was guilty. Really, I do! I could feel vindicated and happy and righteously triumphant when he's marched to the block! That man was going to hurt our queen! My cousin! Off with his head!

That would be a nice feeling.

Instead, I'm going to have to watch a man I'm sure loved my dear cousin sacrificed for the small chance that he was a danger to her. That's just ... it doesn't seem fair. Just, maybe. Maybe it's all acceptable losses. But fair?

I won't change my vote, though, no matter how the count is going. I've thought and thought and thought about this, and I stand with my queen. Reeve might do the heavy lifting, but she's the Jewel of the Desert, and I have to trust that she picked a King who'd stand beside her and guide her through the years and sire good, strong Ansharian daughters on her. I might not do any good -- I won't do any good, no, it's foregone at this point -- but that doesn't matter.

... poor Matthew. Poor Aes. Poor, poor little Edalene.

Ian and I made an announcement at court today, but I didn't see Miss Rebecca or Sir Skyler nearby, and maybe others missed it, as well~ So if you haven't heard, spread the word!

Ah, so, we're sponsoring a performance of a Dentorian ballad performed by a wonderfully talented young troubadour troupe~! There's been so many retellings of your own legend -- The Man in the Iron Mask, isn't it? -- that we were reminded of one of our own that's a bit similar~ It's going to be wonderful, and we invite everyone to come!

Do tell me you're all going to be there? And spread the word, we want as many people as possible to make it a lively little gathering!

There's going to be food~~

Ah, well, it's all but over with, now.

I made a last minute "plea" to my fellow Councilors -- Reeve has won his majority, and quite handily at that. It's mostly all nobility who've sided with Matthew, and I presume it's only to not set a dangerous precedent for themselves. All the others ...

My Queen ...

I ... I'm so sorry. You must see the way the wind is blowing, by now. Is there anything else you can think of that we can do? Any last minute ...

I ...

I can't even imagine, Edalene, I can't ... if I were to lose you, the way that ...

Oh, Edalene.

We've found a healer, and she'll be stopping by first thing tomorrow. She's the sweetest old lady, she was more than eager to help us out...she understands how stubborn people can be when they're not well. Father insists it isn't necessary, but I'm sure he'll be grateful when he starts feeling better!
