There's nothing you could have done, he tells me. It wasn't my fault. I know that, Father, but considering Ciaran was one of two people we promised to save, I can't help but feel a little like we failed him! And you, who admired him so and are understandably devastated, telling me not to feel bad...somehow that only makes me feel worse.

I know I can't change the past, but...

Hey, a letter from home! Sure has been a while since I've heard from Mom and the others...they're doing well. The gang can't believe I'm really in Eina of all places, and Anne said she nearly fainted when I described the castle in my last letter! I can only imagine how she'd react to seeing it, hahaha! That'll never happen, of course, the gang aint much for travel, but still.

Also apparently one of the cats Mom's been looking after had kittens. Seven of 'em! Says she's gonna try to find good homes for them all, but knowing her she'll probably keep at least one.

I'm sure glad the whole mess with Lady Benedette and Lord Leon is over with...it seems Lord Leon wasn't such a bad person after all~ But I'm glad he's going back to face up to his responsibilities like a gentleman should!

But things aren't back to okay around here...Uncle Stephan is still going to die. It's still so hard to imagine even after all this time...

Well~ Today certainly is a nice day, isn't it? In fact, the last few days have been just lovely! I sure wouldn't mind going into town tomorrow, anyone's welcome to come with me!

... What I would give to be back home with Marinda. And my books. I do my best in serving my House, but I fear I have never been a very good politician. This is a matter that could change relations between all of our Houses, and here I think of how I have missed watching my daughter grow and thrive. Perhaps it is no wonder after all, that my forebears have been called arrogant. Perhaps they tired of politics and wished more time for scholarship instead.

I will advise Lillithe to speak to other members of the Council. Just to sense where the wind is blowing.

I think nearly all outstanding repairs to the manor have been made, and the garden will be clean by tomorrow. I'm assured that the pantry will be full by the time Lord Franz arrives. Is there anything else you think I should do, Matthias? It has been a while since we have had a visitor. Should I make notes on the more recent vintages for him?

Hello Stephanie. What do you think about spending a day at the markets some point in the next week? The caravans that have come for the Day of Long Summer will leave after that, so it will be good to see for a final time if there is anything we will like, don't you agree?
